3 Simple Ways to Ease the Holiday Overwhelm for Breast Cancer Survivors
Hello, lovely!
It’s that time of year again—the holidays are upon us, and for many of us, the season that’s supposed to be merry and bright can often feel more like an exhausting marathon we never signed up for. If you’re a breast cancer survivor, you know that the holiday cheer can sometimes feel a little... heavy.
I get it. I’ve been there. The pressure to sparkle when you feel anything but, or to keep pushing when your body and mind are begging for rest—it can be overwhelming. And let’s not forget the emotional weight of trying to navigate a world that seems to have moved on, while you’re still finding your way through your new normal.
But I’m here to remind you—you don’t have to do it all. You don’t have to pretend everything’s fine, and it’s okay if this holiday season looks different from the ones before. It’s time to take the pressure off, focus on what truly matters, and start easing that holiday overwhelm.
So, let’s dive into 3 simple ways to help you reclaim your energy and find balance this season:
1. Rewrite the Script
It’s okay if this year looks different. Maybe you're not hosting the big family dinner or attending every holiday party. That’s okay. You’re honoring your body, and that is something to celebrate. Focus on what feels right for you this season, not what society or family traditions tell you should be happening.
2. Focus on Energy-Boosting Choices
Small, simple actions can have a huge impact on your energy levels. Staying hydrated, taking short walks, and making time for moments of stillness are little choices that add up. You don’t need to climb mountains; just moving your body in a way that feels good can do wonders.
Also, be mindful of the people and activities you surround yourself with. You know the ones—the energy vampires who leave you feeling drained. This season, give yourself permission to say no and protect your energy.
3. Rest is Non-Negotiable
Rest is not a luxury. It's your body's way of healing, and you don’t need to earn it. There are no medals for doing everything perfectly. Allow yourself to rest. Your body deserves it. So when you’re tired, take a break. It’s the best thing you can do for your long-term health and recovery.
These three tips might seem simple, but they’re powerful. By focusing on your well-being, you’ll be able to start feeling more like yourself—the version of you that’s still in there, even if it’s hard to see right now.
