325 Regain Your Control: The Missing Steps to Reclaim Your Body, Mind, and Health

confidence & mindset energy recovery healthy habits overcoming fatigue overwhelm regain control self-care stress management

"I Just Want to Feel Like Myself Again."

You wake up exhausted before your feet even hit the floor. You glance in the mirror and barely recognize the person staring back at you—not just physically, but emotionally.

Your body doesn’t feel like yours anymore.

Your mind is foggy, and the energy you used to have feels like a distant memory.

No one prepared you for this part—the part where treatment ends, and you’re left to figure out how to move forward.

You thought you’d feel better by now. But instead, you find yourself wondering…

  • “Is this just my life now?”
  • “Why am I still so tired?”
  • “I thought surviving would mean I’d feel stronger, not weaker.”
  • “I know I need to make changes, but where do I even start?”

If any of this sounds familiar, I want you to know—you are not alone.

And more importantly, you don’t have to stay stuck here.

Regaining control over your body, mind, and health after breast cancer isn’t about willpower or doing more. It’s about starting with a few simple shifts that make everything easier.

Let’s start small—right here, right now—with these three powerful shifts that I used to help me when I felt the exact same way and I'm sharing them to help you feel like you again.

Step #1: Focus on What You Can Control (Instead of What You Can’t)

One of the hardest parts of life after breast cancer is the feeling that you’ve lost control.

Your body changed.
Your energy is unpredictable.
Your emotions feel all over the place.

It’s frustrating. It’s exhausting. And it’s easy to feel stuck.

But here’s the thing—you don’t have to control everything to start feeling better.

The Common Trap: Focusing on What’s Out of Your Hands

It’s easy to get caught up in:

  • Worrying about the what-ifs (“What if I get sick again?”)
  • Feeling defeated by how much has changed (“I’ll never feel like my old self again.”)
  • Overwhelmed by all the things you “should” be doing (“I need to fix everything at once.”)

But none of these thoughts actually move you forward. In fact, they're responsible for keeping you stuck and draining your super precious energy.

Instead, I invite you to shift your focus to what you can control today.

The Small Shift: Start with Just One Thing

When everything feels overwhelming, the best thing you can do is simplify.

What’s one small thing you can do today to support your body?

Here are a few examples:
✅ Drinking a glass of water before your morning coffee.
✅ Adding a handful of greens to your lunch.
✅ Taking five deep breaths when you feel stressed.

Small steps like these may seem insignificant, but they create momentum. And momentum leads to confidence.

Instead of trying to fix everything, just focus on the next right step.

If you're feeling like stress is just a constant in your life now...it doesn't have to be. CHECK THIS OUT.

Step #2: Rebuild Trust with Your Body (Even If It Feels Like It Betrayed You)

This one is big.

One of the most heartbreaking parts of recovery is feeling like you can’t trust your body anymore.

  • “I used to know what my body needed, but now I feel lost.”
  • “I don’t know if I’m doing enough to stay healthy.”
  • “What if I do something wrong and make things worse?”

If you’ve ever felt this way, I want you to hear this loud and clear:

💛 Your body is not broken. It’s still yours. And it wants to support you—it just needs something different than before.

The Common Trap: Trying to “Follow the Rules” Instead of Listening to Yourself

There’s a lot of conflicting advice out there.

Google tells you one thing.
Pinterest tells you another.
Even doctors don’t always agree.

It’s overwhelming. And it makes you feel like you’ll never get it right. (And if you're anything like me, you've always been the "good girl who follows all the rules"...this can feel really uncomfortable!)

But here’s the truth: You don’t need another set of rules. You just need to start listening to your body again.

The Small Shift: Pay Attention to What Works for You

Instead of stressing over what’s “right” or “wrong,” start with simple curiosity.

Try this:

  • After each meal, pause for a moment. Ask yourself, “How does my body feel?”
  • Notice if certain foods make you feel more energized or more sluggish.
  • Pay attention to how your body responds to movement, rest, and hydration.

Your body is always giving you feedback. The more you listen, the easier it becomes to trust yourself again.

And remember—progress is not perfection. Every small shift adds up.

Step #3: Make Self-Care Non-Negotiable (Without Guilt or Overwhelm)

You know you need to take care of yourself. But let’s be honest—

  • You’re exhausted.
  • You don’t have time for anything “extra.”
  • And deep down, a part of you feels guilty prioritizing yourself.

Sound familiar?

If so, here’s what I want you to remember:

💡 Self-care is not a luxury. It’s a necessity.

The Common Trap: Thinking Self-Care Has to Be “Big” to Count

Most people think self-care means things like:
💆‍♀️ Long bubble baths.
🍵 Expensive spa days.
💤 A full 8 hours of sleep (ha!).

But true self-care is way simpler.

It’s about giving yourself what you need in the moment, without guilt.

The Small Shift: Make It as Easy as Possible

What’s something small you can do today that will help you feel even 1% better?

Here are a few ideas:
🧘‍♀️ Taking three deep breaths before starting your day.
📖 Reading one page of a book you love.
🚶‍♀️ Stepping outside for two minutes of fresh air.

Tiny shifts like these retrain your nervous system to feel safe, calm, and supported. And when you feel this way...you guessed it, you feel more in control.

And when you feel better, everything else becomes easier.

You Don’t Have to Stay Stuck. You Just Need a Starting Point.

Right now, it might feel like feeling safe and at home again in your body and mind is out of reach.

But it's not gone—you just need the right steps to reclaim that feeling.

Remember:
✨ You don’t have to fix everything overnight.
✨ You don’t have to follow anyone else’s “rules.”
✨ You don’t have to do this alone.

You just need small, sustainable shifts—and I’m here to guide you every step of the way to help you focus your time, energy and motivation on what you CAN control.
